The 65th Dornbirn GFC 2026 has the following slogan:
From Fiber to Systemic Solutions – Connecting Innovation Across Industrie

1. From Fiber Recycling to Systemic Change – Scaling Circular Solutions Across the Globe
The global shift toward circularity is redefining the entire fiber world — from natural to synthetic and man-made fibers. This session focuses on systemic approaches to circularity, addressing both mechanical and chemical recycling, renewable carbon, and regenerative models for natural fibers.

Key aspects include:
  • Industrial-scale recycling technologies (mechanical, chemical, enzymatic)
  • Fiber-to-fiber vs. fiber-to-X pathways, carbon capture & utilisation
  • Circular models for wool, cotton & bast fibers
  • Policy frameworks and global collaboration

2. Digital Futures – AI, Data & Intelligent Fibers
Artificial intelligence and data-driven systems are revolutionizing how fibers — natural, synthetic, or hybrid — are designed and produced. This session explores digital transformation and smart functionality across the value chain.

Key aspects include:
  • AI-supported material design & manufacturing
  • Data transparency & Digital Product Passports
  • Smart textiles integrating sensors and adaptive functionality
  • Traceability for natural fiber origins and supply chains

3. Functional & Innovative Fibers – From High-Performance to Daily Life
At the heart of innovation lies the fusion of natural, bio-based, and synthetic fibers into multifunctional materials. This session highlights new developments in performance, resilience, and sustainability across diverse applications — from wool-based composites to bio-based polymers and advanced synthetics.

Key aspects include:
  • New bio-based and high-performance polymers
  • Functionalized natural fibers (wool, hemp, cotton, flax, etc.)
  • Man-made fibers: polyester, polyamide, aramid, and specialty fibers innovations
  • Hybrid fiber systems & advanced processing

4. Workwear & Protective Wear incl. Defense / Military Applications
Protective and workwear textiles drive innovation in fiber technology, combining comfort, performance, and durability. Depending on presentation submissions, this session will emphasize defense and security-related applications, including natural fiber blends that enhance breathability and comfort in extreme conditions.

Key aspects include:
  • High-performance & ballistic fibers
  • Flame, heat & cut resistance
  • Natural/synthetic hybrid materials for protective wear
  • Circular design & durability for workwear systems

5. Cross-Industry Innovations – “Fibre & Textile meets Pulp & Paper”
Exploring synergies between the fibre, textile, and paper sectors to inspire next-generation solutions. From circular raw materials to advanced processing and surface technologies, cross-industry collaboration can accelerate innovation and unlock new, high-value paper applications.
