coNea is a 100% bio-based textile material and yarn that integrates lignin, a natural polymer derived from wood, as a core component - coNea is biodegradable and does not contain harmful substances. The proprietary coNea comes in the form of a chip and is designed for melt-spinning and therefore highly scalable and a drop-in technology. The filament or staple yarn demonstrates excellent mechanical properties, making it suitable for demanding industrial and consumer applications.

coNea, developed by OceanSafe AG of Switzerland, is an innovative bio-based polymer in chip form, designed for filament and staple yarn production via extrusion and melt-spinning. This patented and proprietary material integrates lignin, an abundant natural polymer, merging the best qualities of synthetic and natural fibers. As a drop-in technology, coNea seamlessly fits into existing textile production lines, ensuring high scalability and easy adoption. It supports a complete lifecycle: it is biodegradable and recyclable through chemical depolymerization, allowing it to be repurposed into high-quality raw materials. The development, in partnership with the ITA Institute of RWTH Aachen, leveraged advanced technologies to maximize lignin's textile potential. Our presentation will detail the development process, highlighting key challenges and innovations. We will also share our strategic approach to market introduction, emphasizing coNea's role in advancing next-gen material adoption in the textile industry. Importantly, coNea facilitates a massive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to other material options, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. Join us to learn how coNea is setting new standards in the scalable textile material space, driving the textile industry towards a sustainable and circular economy.
