Woven workwear fabrics face very high quality expectations and standards, the market is very price driven, and at the same time there is increasing pressure to increase the use circular fibres in textiles. Is this a combination that can be achieved successfully and what could be the role of public procurement to accelerate this transition?

Retouch – one of the first workwear fabrics to contain circular fibres – was launched in 2024 as a result of a joint development between Touchpoint, Rester and Klopman. The development project required a pioneer vision, committed partners, trials and errors, and countless new learnings. The result can be seen as a showcase that circular fibres can be utilized even in high performance European workwear fabrics. But what efforts are needed to make these types of fabrics mainstream and could public procurement have an important and leading role in accelerating the transition to a more sustainable textile industry?
