One of the aims of innovation is to find new ways to overcome existing limits. Indorama’s new fiber composite cord structures for reinforcing applications allows to combine materials, and their intrinsic properties, in a way never done up to now, allowing to reach both high technical performance and environmental impact. In this paper we introduce the properties of the new composite cord structures.

Today’s technical requirements of material applications are changing, crossing a revolution, with the challenge of guaranteeing or even improving technical performance and having as well a sustainable footprint. This convergence of requests cannot be fully answered by using materials and concepts used up to now since materials have intrinsic properties and behaviors that cannot be overcome. The main focus in this paper is to explain the key aspects and the potential of this innovative composite reinforcing cord structure developed at Indorama Ventures, its specifically designed manufacturing process and its properties. One example of application is in the tire industry, with potential benefits to reduce complexity of the processes and raw materials, as well as the impact on tire environmental performances for the final user is discussed.
