Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer, and it is considered as one of the most potential raw material in future products. Cellulose modification is essential in to meet the requirements set for the novel end products. Traditional cellulose additives provide a sound basis for cellulose modification. However, some of the traditional chemistries do not meet the requirements set for the novel end products, such as renewable raw material content, recyclability or biodegradability. In this presentation, we will envision how the cellulose additives chemistry is developing and present future concepts for cellulosic fiber modification.
