Hugo Vuurens, PHA Biopolymers
  • PHA’s are natural polymers made by bacteria from 100% biobased sources. PHA’s are marine and soil compostable.
  • There are quite a few different PHA types. (semi)Crystalline PHA’s can be used directly in spinning processes.
  • Amorphous PHA is used to modify other biopolymers like PLA and PBS as well as crystalline PHA’s in creating better biodegradable fibres as well as modifying properties like softness. This can be in blends as well as in BICO products.
  • CJ BIO is world leading biochemical company with a very strong fermentation capability and is producing PHA on the Metabolix heritage.
