The increased demand for high performance filters to reduce the energy costs and increase the filter efficiency gave us the opportunity to make research for virtual development of filters. In the public funded project, we developed a simulation chain for the design of new filter media demonstrated using spunblown process. Our coupled simulation approach provides the properties of the final product and its filtration. The validation is done by measurements using experiments by MANN+HUMMEL GmbH. The visco-elastic material model can describe the behaviour of the filaments at different temperatures. From simulation results we can predict the microstructure of the media and filtration properties. Using a digital twin, we can improve the material properties by changes in the production process. In the presentation we give an overview of this project and show the simulated results compared to the experimental measurements.
