Frictional properties between fiber-to-fiber, and fiber-to-metal are critical for textile quality control, which are primarily controlled by lubricants or textile spin finishes applied during synthetic filament spinning. With increasing demand in specialty materials like thermoplastic polyurethanes for textile application, choice of suitable spin finish is paramount. In this work, an attempt is made to demonstrate how thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers interact with conventional textile spin finishes and further recommendations are made on choice of spin finish. Additional, structure-process-property-application relationships are compared following an array of tests simulating textile processing conditions.
