Petroleum-based plastic wastes are severely impacting our planet. Biodegradable plastics can be used as an alternative that consumes less energy, has low carbon emissions, and help to conserve petroleum supplies. Biodegradable polymers can then make a positive impact both environmentally and economically as their area of application is expanding rapidly. This paper will overview emerging biodegradable polymers, their suitability and commercial applications in textiles, and future challenges.
